Full Description

A large quantity of dressed Roman masonry was recovered during the construction of a new set of steps close to King Charles’ Tower in 1983. The excavation of an area immediately to the east of the wall encountered considerable deposits of Roman stone however they did not appear to have originated from the fortress walls itself (1)
