Full Description

A substantial block of masonry, believed to be Roman was recorded during archaeological investigations carried out within the cathedral in 1997. The work was required in advance of the installation of underfloor heating in the main body of the building and required the removal of the present floor surface. Previous evaluation in the same area produced additional evidence of Roman activity including a possible occupation surface and later demolition layer (CHER 8184). (1)
