Full Description
Traces of an organic deposit was recorded overlying an earlier sandstone foundation (CHER 8180) during trial excavations at the west end of Hunter Street in 2002. The excavations, carried out by Earthworks Archaeology, identified a layer of black/brown organic material containing small quantities of clay, charcoal and small red sandstone fragments. (1)
While the limited nature of the evaluation precluded any further investigation of this deposit, it is suggested by the excavator that this deposit may indicate the presence of an oven nearby. (1)
