Summary

Archaeological observations during the installation of a water drain on Commonhall Street encountered a layer at the base of the trench containing exclusively Roman material. An undated feature comprising two courses of sandstone blocks including fragments of reused architectural pieces was encountered immediately above the soil layer.

Full Description

Archaeological observations during the installation of a water drain on Commonhall Street in 2011 encountered a layer at the base of the trench containing exclusively Roman material of a late first to second century date. The layer was not investigated in any detail, however, as it lay below the level of development impact.

An undated feature comprising two courses of sandstone blocks including fragments of reused architectural pieces was encountered immediately above the soil layer (1)
