Summary

Traces of a Roman timber framed structure was recorded during archaeological investigations at Chester Cathedral comprising a single wall and associated drain, however the evidence remained limited due to the nature of the excavation. Full Description

Further archaeological evaluation carried out in advance of construction of a new Song School at Chester Cathedral encountered traces of Roman structural activity. A limited excavation carried out within the east cloister in 2002-2003 recorded a possible timber slot, tentatively interpreted as evidence of a timber phase building. A drain was also recorded on a parallel alignment (CHER 8282).

This may be part of the same structure recorded in previous excavations to the east in 1998 (CHER 8200).
