Monument record 8515 - Roman yard surface west of the Elliptical building bath complex

Please read our .

Summary

The area west of the elliptical building bath complex appears to have remained as open ground during the early Roman occupation during the late first century. Given its close proximity to the baths it is perhaps likely that this area was intended to be for the open exercise ground perhaps with a swimming pool that normally completed a bath complex however there is no evidence for such activity in this case, rather the area appears to have remained as an open yard space.
