Full Description

Archaeological investigations to the rear of 25-29 Bridge Street recorded traces of a second century Roman structure overlying an earlier timber building (CHER 8190) and a subsequent demolition and levelling layer (CHER 8192). A robbed out trench [Context 113, 119, 124] on an north-south alignment was recorded in Trench K in the Fletchers Buildings passage. While the excavated area was too small scale to allow for further study, the robber trench indicates the presence of a Roman structure in the area (1)

It is possible that this forms part of the structure recorded some 25m to the north east. (CHER 8460)
