Full Description
Archaeological investigations at 37-41 White Friars in 2006 recorded limited evidence of Roman activity in the area. In all, thirteen evaluation test pits were excavated across the site many of which produced quantities of residual Roman pottery and other artefacts. The most significant feature recorded was a pit or a ditch on an east-west alignment in Trench 13, however dating evidence was recovered from the fill of the feature was limited to medieval pottery and an undated copper object from the upper fills of the feature.
Although the feature could not be reliably dated, its location immediately to the south of the fortress suggests it may have formed part of the defensive ditch (1)
