Full Description

A series of trial trenches and inspection pits were excavated at 25-29 Bridge Street just to the north of the bath complex in 1996, although much of the evidence recovered from the investigations relate to Roman structures outside the bath complex, two inspection pits on the southern edge of the site recorded traces of wall remains as well as a sandstone lined sump pit or plunge bath. The features were interpreted by the excavator as part of the northern perimeter wall of the baths. The extremely limited nature of the inspection pits however precluded any further investigation. (1)
