Full Description
An early first century black cinerary urn was recovered during the construction of a sewer to the rear of property on Northgate Street east between Abbey Green and Abbey Square in 1848 (then owned by T Dodd). The property was said to be opposite the Blue Bell Tavern. The urn was discovered 8ft below the surface directly overlying the natural. Although dating is tentative it is suggested that it is Domitian (81-96AD) (1). Said to be covered by a stone slab (2).
