Description

Northgate St., 1848: A black, first century cinerary urn was discovered to the rear of premises on Northgate Street opposite the Blue Bell, then owned by T Dodd (1) (4), described as 300 feet inside the rampart (5). CHER 8088/32 Newgate Street: c20ft of lead pipe on an east-west alignment on Newgate Street (2) CHER 8412/4 Bridge St. West, Lamb Row, Pepper St., Grosvenor Rd., and Cuppin St., 1848: a large drain cut into the bedrock, and leading to the creek was found (4) (3) (6). This is the same drain as found in 1821 (ECH2409). CHER 8098 Crook Street, 1848: Column bases were found during excavations for drains (4). CHER 8321/2 2-4 Foregate Street, 1848: record of Roman road surfaces from outside No 2-4 Foregate Street (6 p475) St John Street, 1848: Rock cut drain recorded (7)
