Full Description
Just to the west of a stone wall and large post setting found in Edgar’s Field in 1996 (CHER 8451), were additional architectural remains represented by a possible dry-stone wall and a line of stake holes (4). The remains are described as a line of large sandstone fragments mixed with river cobbles, which appeared to represent a dry-stone wall, and six post holes cut and respected its line. Pottery from the fill of the postholes and from the wall suggested its date is similar to that of CHER 8451 to the east (4). Despite that last point, the excavators also pointed out the possibility that the posts could have been cut from a higher elevation, and that they could represent later (post-Roman, ‘Saxon?’) occupation at this location (4).
