Summary

During the excavation of the foundation trenches for the ABC Cinema (formerly the Regal Cinema), on Love St., south of Foregate St., a row of six stakes was recorded. They were of split oak, roughly triangular in section, and pointed. The six stakes were in a row, aligned east – west, standing erect in boulder clay. Some first to second century pottery was found in association.

Full Description

During the excavation of the foundation trenches for the ABC Cinema (formerly the Regal Cinema), on Love St., south of Foregate St., a row of six stakes was recorded (1). They were of split oak, roughly triangular in section, and pointed. The six stakes were in a row, aligned east – west, standing erect in boulder clay. Some first to second century pottery was found in association. The excavator stresses that the stakes were not associated with the area of burnt flooring also recorded at the site (CHER 8126/3) (1).
