Full Description
A substantial deposit, representing the collapsed debris of a sandstone interval tower (CHER 8226) belonging to the Roman fortress’ masonry wall was identified during a rapid archaeological recording, carried out during essential repairs to a section of collapsed city wall in St John St, Chester, in 2009 (1). The sandstone rubble deposits represent the collapsed tumble or demolition of the Roman structure, at some point after it had fallen out of use (1).
