Full Description
A probable cobbled surface of likely Roman date, identified and recorded during structural remedial works to the sandstone retaining wall at St Olave's Church, Lower Bridge St., Chester (1). Seen as a patchy layer of brown silty sand containing numerous cobblestones, the deposit was interpreted as the remains of a surface and a fragment of roof tile was seen embedded in it. This feature lay directly on the natural yellow clay subsoil (1).
