Full Description
During excavations at 20 City Rd between 2007 and 2008, following the demolition of the former Royalty Theatre, Roman activity at the site was positively identified (1). This was represented by a linear feature running southeast - northwest, containing a small assemblage of Roman coarseware pottery, and two small pits to the east of this feature, all cut into the natural clay.
The linear feature was preserved to a length of 3m, was 1m wide, had a U-shaped profile and was 0.3m deep. One of the pits was oval, approximately 1.2m in diameter, while the other was circular, and 0.35m in diameter. Both pits contained no finds (1).
