Full Description
Working Men’s Club possibly by the architect Sir G Gilbert Scott c.1925. A large two storey pitched roof building of red brick and York stone. Classically detailed in the 'English Renaissance' style reminiscent of Sir Christopher Wren’s secular work at the Kensington Palace Orangery (1704) - see (2). Italianate niches with art nouveau influences to two gables, elaborate window heads and key stones. The window frames recall the design of the red 'K4' phone box by Sir G Gilbert Scott who did a lot of work for the Post Office hence the speculative attribution of him as architect.
