Summary

Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church 2A Enfield Road Ellesmere Port CH65 8BY The original church was of corrugated iron built in 1909 to serve the workers of the Wolverhampton Corrugated Iron Co, this was the site of the first Catholic Church in Ellesmere Port. It was replaced in 1931 with the current dark brown brick building. The church is planned on a southwest to northeast axis with an entrance in the south and the chancel in east. The nave is four bays long with main entrance in southeast elevation. There is a large rose window overlooking Whitby Road and semi circular window openings in each bay separated by decorative brick columns. The gables at the ends of the main transept are decorated with tall arched windows and there is a cross shaped finial to the southwest gable. The interior has a wide span roof supported by steel trusses on unusual pale brick and original art deco design radiators.

Description:
