Summary

The flour mill was an eighteenth century three storey brick and slate building which grew into a sizable complex of buildings during the latter half of the nineteenth century. It was powered by a water wheel and the silted up mill pond survives to the immediate south. The mill buildings were demolished during redevelopment of the site.

Full Description

An eighteenth century three storey brick and slate building survives and is now part of a milk distribution center. The large pool is silted up. It fed the wheel through a culvert along the bank (1).

The mill building, adjacent to the High Street, is clearly depicted on the tithe map of 1838 (2).

The mill complex has expanded into a long linear arrangement of buildings which includes a smithy and a gas works (3).

Demolished during redevelopment of the milk distribution center (4).
