Summary

Formerly railway station, now offices: dated 1897 for LNWR at the expense of the 1st Duke of Westminster. Railway station - English bond red Ruabon brick with red sandstone dressings. Hipped Lakeland green slate roof, with pointed lead finials. 3 brick chimneys with twisted stacks and stone mouldings. 1-storey, 6-bay west front. Six rooms in a line. From north to south they are lavatory, stationmasters office, ticket office, parcel office, porter's room, ladies waiting room.

Full Description

Formerly railway station, now offices: dated 1897 for LNWR at the expense of the 1st Duke of Westminster. English bond red Ruabon brick with red sandstone dressings. Hipped Lakeland green slate roof, with pointed lead fini -als. 3 brick chimneys with twisted stacks and stone mouldings. 1-storey,6-bay W front. Moulded stone plinth, plain strip pilasters carrying moulded cornice, pilasters with capstones formerly carrying platform canopy. Central doorway in moulded surround has basket-arched head with 2-light fanlight above. 5 other doors, 4 with shouldered flatheads, and 2-light basket-arched fanlights. Similar lights in 2 mullioned and transomed windows. E front has more ordered facade with central 3 bays stepping forward under a hipped roof supported on 4 mass- ive wooden brackets. Date plaque and monogram over door. Interior: 6 rooms in a line. From N to S they are lavatory, stationmasters office, ticket office, parcel office, porter's room, ladies waiting room. All have pine panelled dado.(1)
