Full Description
The station is situated upon the Chester & Crewe Railway (completed 1840 (1). The station serves a predominantly rural area as well as a quite substantial works depot to its immediate north-east. (2) It is safe to assume that the works pre date the railway as they are situated upon the bank of the main line of the Shropshire Union Canal (date of authorizing Act 1772. Presumably the railway replaced the canal as the means by which goods would arrive and depart from the depot. (1).
