Full Description
Gazebo at Christleton Hall and adjoining 60m long South Garden Wall to Stoneydale, Pepper Street. C17 with C18 and C20 rebuilding. Brick with red sandstone dressings. Welsh slate roof. Gazebo, which may be C18, is square in plan and has an ashlar base, stone quoins and a restored embattled parapet. Interior: Vaulted ceiling rising from square pilasters. Quarry tile floor. Running from this to the east along the roadside is a contemporary stone wall. Ashlar base and brick upper portion with a half round coping. Some added brick and a ramp towards gazebo and an inserted stone entrance to Stoneydale. These walls may belong to the gardens of a now demolished house of the Bishops of Chester known to be in this area. Full architectural description (1).
