Description

SJ 46 NW CHRISTLETON C.P. PEPPER STREET (North Side) 3/21 Gazebo at Christleton Hall, and adjoining 60m long south garden wall to Stoneydale GV II Gazebo and adjoining south garden wall: C17 with C18 and C20 rebuilding. English garden wall bond orange brick, red sandstone dressings. Welsh slate roof. Gazebo, which may be C18, is square in plan and has an ashlar base, stone quoins and a restored embattled parapet. South face has a restored pointed window with angled glazing bars and the north face an inserted doorway. Interior: Vaulted ceiling rising from square pilasters. Quarry tile floor. Running from this to the east along the roadside is a contemporary stone wall. This has a similar ashlar base and brick upper portion with a half round coping. Some added brick and a ramp towards gazebo and an inserted stone entrance to Stoneydale. These walls may belong to the gardens of a now demolished house of the Bishops of Chester known to be in this area. Listing NGR: SJ4387765689
