Full Description
Large collection of clay pipe fragments. Found in the garden of 18 Craithie Road, Vicars Cross, over a period of 8.5 years. Taken to the Grosvenor Museum for identification by Mr J A Blake, the owner. Pipes range in date from the 2nd half of the 17th century through to the early part of this century & include a late 17th or early 18th century Chester maker- stamped stem fragment, several bent stem fragments, possibly wasters, triple & double bored pieces of stem & a number of 19th-early 20th century stamped ware. Finds with Mr Blake (1).
The presence of a number of possible wasters in the assemblage suggests a possible clay pipe kiln operated nearby.
