Two large parallel curving NNE-SSW aligned ridges, approx 50m apart (ridge to ridge) were observed. They appeared to run into the woodland (Mrs Leche's Gorse) to the north. Aerial photographs dating from the 1970s (see 2) show the ridges continuing north beyond the woodland in to fields to the immediate east of The Wetreins. These features may be the headlands associated with an earlier medieval field system. The headlands seem to have been respecting another pre-existing linear landscape feature, possibly a track or road (see CHER 1785/2).
<2> Huntings Surveys Ltd, 1971-1973, 1971-1973 County Survey (Aerial Photograph). SCH4881.
<3> Various, Various, Oral communication to the HER, Edwards R, 18/12/2017 (Oral Communication). SCH2330.
These features are very similar to other esker-like features in the vicinity. These features are generally orientated north-south and parallel pairs do occur.
