Milestone: late eighteenth century. Triangular-sectioned, whitewashed, buff sandstone block with a shaped top. Black-painted inscription on the north face reads "To Macclesfield lM" and on south face "To Chapel 10M, Sheffield, 32M, Chesterfield". The distance now hidden in the pavement. Similar examples survive on the former Macclesfield to Chapel-en-le-Frith turnpike of 1770 in Rainow (4), Kettleshulme (q.v.) and Lyme Handley.

Late eighteenth century milestone located on pavement adjacent to busy road. Sandstone block with shaped-top now painted white and inscribed 'To Macclesfield 1M' on the north face; 'To Chapel 10M Sheffield 32m Chesterfield 33M' on the south face with figures painted in black. Stone attributed to former Macclesfield to Chapel-en-le-Frith turnpike road of 1770. The stone abuts a dry stone wall that retains agricultural land. The stone is triangular in section and stands 0.84m high by 0.42m wide by 0.28m thickness on the wall side, tapering to 0.08m on the road side. The stone has been resited on the tarmac pavement 0.86m from the road. Its function is interpreted by the inscription and its location.
