4/64 Milestone opposite No.66 (The Mile House)

Milestone : late C18. Triangular-sectioned, whitewashed, buff sandstone block with a shaped top. Black-painted inscription on the north face reads "To Macclesfield lM" and on south face "To Chapel 10M, Sheffield, 32M, Chesterfield" The distance now hidden in the pavement. Similar examples survive on the former Macclesfield to Chapel-en-le-Frith turnpike of 1770 in Rainow (4), Kettleshulme (q.v.) and Lyme Handley.
