Monument record 4579 - Parish Boundary Stone at SJ 9537 7326

Parish boundary stone dated 1822. Semi-circular headed sandstone block has a well-cut "M 1822" (for Macclesfield) on its west face. There are other identical stones showing the Macclesfield boundary between Macclesfield Forest (2) and Rainow (1). Boundary stone unlocated August 2007. Presumed location along the projected boundary suggests the monument should have been sited above a steep bank on the west side of the lane. The bank has eroded at this location and the stone may have fallen or have been liable to fall into the road. There was no evidence of the stone on the agricultural land above the lane or on the bramble covered east bank of the lane. Monument presumed to have been removed (2 & 3).
