Full Description

An area of temporary housing estates to the North of the Ordnance factory at Risley. They were presumably built to house the workers for the factory. Found on the 1940s aerial photos and marked as disused camps on the modern os mapping. They are characterized by around a dozen H-Shaped structures around the edge of the site with other buildings that appear to resemble Nissen Huts in the center. It is unknown if the whole extent is located as the photos do not cover the factory and the area directly east, south and west. (3) says that one of his sources thinks that at least one of the camps was HMS Gosling, a training facility for Navy airmen commissioned in 1st July 1942 and closed on 31st march 1947.
