Full Description
Salt Works marked on the 1:528 Ordnance Survey Town plan of Nantwich (1). The brine pit was the main source from the salt-making industry throughout the medieval and post-medieval period. Went into decline from then on. In 1882 it was cleaned out to supply brine to the newly erected Medicinal Baths (2). See CSMR: 180/1 and 178/1 for the usage of the pit in previous ages.
