Description
A level 2 archaeological building survey was undertaken prior to the partial conversion of a barn at Wimberry Moss Farm, Rainow. The building appears to have been built as a shippon with hay loft over by Richard Lomas between 1881 and 1897. The watching brief the remains of a brick internal wall aligned east – west butting the eastern wall of the barn. The function of this was unclear, and only extended c. 1m into the room, suggesting it was for a stall rather than an internal cross wall, or the remains of an earlier building. The bricks were machine made and the mortar appeared to be modern, suggesting it was of a 20th century date. (1)
