Description

Survival: brick walls and gateway. Gardens created in last 20 years, roughly contemporary with the residential conversion of the barns. Previous form: early 17th c. hall. Tithe map c.1847 described it as a homestead (69) with a hemp yard (68) to the west with the barns. The 1875 OS map shows no designed ornamental grounds (in contrast to Burton House to the north, for example, with tree belts and a drive). Landscape therefore likely to be a productive garden and small fields. Current form: contemporary. Prior to restoration described as an ’unloved ruin in a field with no paths or driveways’. 2 Box-edged parterres in grass, a formal rose garden and a herb garden.
