Description
An archaeological desk-based assessment at Chorley Old Hall, Alderley Edge. The moated site and nearby fishponds comprised a Scheduled Monument (SM 13497), and the hall was Listed as Grade I (1234539), with a bridge across the moat being Listed as Grade II (1138872). The Scheduled Monument was on the ‘at risk’ register, and a number of proposals had been put forward to provide additional accommodation at the site. Apart from various antiquarian accounts dating from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, an archaeological evaluation had been undertaken at the site during 2003.
