Site Event/Activity record ECH6666 - Heritage Statement: Land at Stanneylands Road, Wilmslow

A heritage statement was produced in 2017 in support of a planning application for a development of 174 houses on land at Stanneylands Road, Wilmslow. The site is located to the north-west of the town centre and comprises a large, irregulary shaped area of land principally used for grazing. To the south of the site boundary is a complex of Grade II Listed buildings at Little Stanneylands, containing Little Stanneylands, a barn and Rose Cottage. The application site has remained as open space and there has been little change within its boundaries since 1841. Whilst some fields have been amalgamated, the principal field boundaries have endured. The landscape surrounding it to the east and south has changed, with development associated with the growth of Wilmslow. Parts of the Application Site have a historic relationship to the Little Stanneylands group of buildings. The Tithe map and Apportionments show that in 1841 the central part of the Application Site was in the same ownership as the Little Stanneylands group and therefore a historic functional relationship exists. A fourth building which formerly enclosed a courtyard with three principal buildings of the Little Stanneylands group was demolished during the early twentieth century and the three remaining buildings were converted or redeveloped for private residential use in the mid-late twentieth century. This included the realignment of the access road and construction of a pool house to the south as well as the intensification of the domestic context of the buildings and grounds. The stable blocks to the north of the buildings were constructed in the late twentieth century. (1)
