Description
Heritage assessment undertaken in 2017 for the Red Lion Hotel and adjoining workshop, the Tudor Cottage (Grade II listed) and the Old Bakery Malpas, in advance of proposed conversion, extension and re-modelling.
The principle heritage asset is the Grade II listed Tudor Cottage, a small, timber-framed house of probably early-mid seventeenth century date. As an undesignated building, the Red Lion is significant primarily for its visual contribution to the character of the Malpas Conservation Area, but also as a hotel with seventeenth century origins, confirmed by fragments of timber-framing within the much altered interior. The Old Bakery is a small, nineteenth century building with derelict outbuildings. (1)
