Description

A programme of building recording, including photographic survey, was undertaken in April 2018, in advance of conversion of redundant farm buildings at Aston Park Farm to form three dwellings. The focus of this building study is Barn B, this complements a similar study produced for Barns A and C (see ECH6557/SCH8495), however, given that Barn B is not due to be altered apart from basic repairs to the roof and rainwater goods, detailed archaeological recording was not deemed necessary. Aston Park was formerly part of the Arley Estate. The site was comprised of Aston Hall, a handsome five bay Georgian house dating to 1715, and the associated farm buildings to the rear of the house. Aston Park was sold in the 20th century, and the farm and the house were divided. The farm remains in business, with 240 acres of arable and beef farming. The house at Aston Park is a Grade II* listed building and, as the farm buildings are considered to be within its historic curtilage, they are listed by association. (1)
