Description

Report on emergency recording following a wall collapse at the old Bishop's Palace, Chester. It is thought that the wall may have been a free standing structure enclosing a terraced garden. At some point from the late 18th century the garden had been raised, essentially filling in the terraces to form a single level garden. This has meant that a great deal of imported material has been backed up against the wall forming the stratigraphic sequence observed.
