Description
A desk based assessment undertaken on behalf of Taylor Wimpey UK. The archaeological assets within the site show potential for possible prehistoric/Roman early activiy and medieval/post-medieval precursors to modern development. Evidence in support of significant archaeological remains of these periods within the site is not substantial but cannot be excluded given the evidence as a whole for Tattenhall and surrounding area.
Evidence suggesting a Roman villa within Tattenhall as well as the nature of the geology suitable for agriculture suggests that such activity should be expected within the site. Roman agriculture is thus a high possibility and medieval and later sources suggest agriculture remained the most prominent usage.
It is anticipated that any archaeological deposits within the site area are unlikely to be of national significance and the effect of development in this area is considered to be of minor to moderate significance.
