Description

Following on from previous work at this site in 1977, which demonstrated that there was a creek or inlet of the river that became infilled in the Roman period and whose northern bank lay beneath Bridgegate House. This event represents work relating to the underpinning of the rear wall of the house where it overlay these soft fills. A series of holes were dug to bedrock and filled with concrete. The fill was a very organic sediment containing Roman finds (1).
