Description
Building work at the southwest corner of this site revealed a corner of the rear face of the city wall in the section that was demolished in 1831 when Castle Drive was laid out (1). The city wall formerly traversed this gap from the Bridge Gate to the southwest corner by dog-legs. The corner discovered is the first dog-leg west from the Bridge Gate. The Ship Gate formerly stood in the west facing part of the second dog leg (1).
