Description
No location plan provided, exact site unknown. Evaluation carried out by Earthworks for L-P Archaeology in 2001. The evaluation has shown that structural and artefactual remains associated with the leadworks and its processes survive within the proposed development area. The remains of brick walls, concrete and stone slab flooring and other features from the now demolished buildings survive just 0.5m below the surface. A circular brick structure and traces of waste ash from a nearby engine house were recorded . Although the exact purpose of the structure was not determined, it was suggested that it formed part of a horse powered lead grinding mill. (1-3)
