Description
This event refers to all construction work carried out in the city of Chester in 1961, with the possible exception of some work deemed significant enough to warrant a unique event number, they are organised by location.
27 Bridge Street, 1961: Alterations to the rear of the Chester Chronicles offices produced a substantial quantity of Roman and later pottery but no structural evidence (1).
Liverpool and Parkgate Road (George & Dragon Pub), 1961: A small amount of Roman pottery was reported during the construction of a new road between Liverpool Rd. and Parkgate Rd., north of the George & Dragon Pub, in 1961. Also reported were human remains that were thought to have derived from the ground of St Thomas's chapel, standing in medieval times. SCH5873 stresses that the human remains and the Roman pottery are not related (1).
