Description
At some time after 1750 (when the land was sold), Mr Hesketh demolished a series of wine vaults that had been constructed from parts of the former Grey Friars complex, in advance of building a new house on the site. This house was on the west side of Stanley St., and during the excavation of a new cellar, tiles, which had been portions of the flooring of a church, and 'buried bodies were dug up'. Contra Watkins (Roman Cheshire, p154), the location of Mr Hesketh's property is not related to the location of the church of St Chad (1).
