This event was an archaeological evaluation, consisting of one linear trench, excavated at the junction of St Martin's Way and Upper Northgate St., between August and September 2004, part of the larger Gorse Stacks Development. 2m of dumped modern rubble were excavated, deposits derived from the construction of the roundabout in the 1960s, sealing post-medieval garden soils overlying bedrock (1).
