Description

This event represents the second phase of excavations and survey at the Roman site of Heronbridge, Chester, carried out from July to August 2003. Following from the 2002 phase, excavation again concentrated on the part of the site between the River Dee and Eaton Rd., and three areas were investigated: Trench III, where burials had been found previously, was extended, and Trenches V and VI were opened. In Trench V, evidence of seventeenth century destruction of Roman earthworks was identified, perhaps related to the Civil War. Roman drainage gully was recorded in Trench VI.
