Description

This event represents an audit of past archaeological excavations (or a desk-based assessment) for the area bound by Northgate St., Princess St., St Martins Way and Hunter St, to establish the nature and present condition of the archaeological remains. The audit emphasises that the area was heavily utilised from the first century (major legionary buildings), the tenth and eleventh centuries (widespread Saxon structures), medieval occupation concentrated on Princess and Northgate St's, and from the seventeenth century to today. It concludes that considerable damage to all archaeological remains has occurred, but significant remains survive between Hunters Walk and St Martin's House.
