Description
Survey of two derelict Mersey flat sailing vessels, the Bedlae located at Old Quay, Runcorn and the Sir Robert Peel, abandoned at West Dock, Widnes. The Survey was carried out in order to gather the information needed to make an accurate model of a sailing flat. At the time, there were several surviving examples of canal flats but not sailing flats. The survey has resulting in a detailed account of the two flats' construction and fittings, the Bedale was built in the 1890's and the Sir Robert Peel in 1842. The Bedale was broken up following the survey and the West Dock at Widnes has now been filled in.
