Description
Site visit to inspect trench for the extension to the side of 55 Queensgate, Castle, Northwich CW8 1DU. The trench consisted of one section running parallel to the SE side of the property linked to the property by a perpendicular length at each end to a depth of about a metre.
Natural was not visible. A silty deposit was present in the base of of the trench below a disturbed soil containing flecks of burnt fuel and sparse fragments of 19th century pottery. Roughly in the centre of the section running parallel to the property was a rubble and mortar spread associated with the drain of the property. A single fragment of Roman roof tile, imbrex, lay in the bottom of the trench. No other features were present.
