Description
Area stripped of topsoil to a depth of between 0.38m and 0.62m. A natural of light brown sand observed in places. Topsoil was a black clay sand with occasional small post medieval CBM and ceramic inclusions up to 0.3m deep. Below was a dark brown sand with moderate post medieval CBM and ceramic inclusions up to 0.3m deep and was often visible in the base of the stripped area. Cursory investigation suggested that this did not mask any significant features. Sizable fragment of a kiln prop recovered from the surface of the stripped area, possibly medieval (1).
Probably not a kiln prop, but a seventeenth century blackware drinking vessel (2).
