Description

The watching brief revealed that the majority of the CCTV installation trenches utilised previous modern service trenches, modern walkway foundations and modern road foundations that had already destroyed any archaeological deposits (1). However, the watching brief has revealed that a mid-seventeenth to eighteenth century layer survives very close to the present surface on the eastern side of Northgate Street and the northern side of St Werburgh Street, in close proximity to St Werburgh's Cathedral.
